Peaceful WangaWestbury Bred Duo to Face Off in Group 3 at Rotorua

The Westbury bred pair of Platinum Command (Red Giant) and Peaceful (Savabeel) will go up against a quality field of fillies and mares at Rotorua on Saturday when they contest the ISCL Rotorua Stakes over 1400m.

Platinum Command has not run since she finished second in the Christchurch Casino Winter Classic last August, a week after she won had won the Group 3 Winter Cup at Riccarton, but has had a trial ten days ago at Foxton where she finished well from the back to finish second behind Taurus and ahead of the talented mare Sensible Princess. Platinum Command is adept on rain affected tracks and any rain on the day at Rotorua could wee her running home strongly under Ryan Elliot who was aboard the mare when she last raced.

Out of the Encosta de Lago mare Wednesday Rocks, Platinum Command has a half-sister by exciting young sire Tarzino heading to the sales in 2020 while Wednesday Rocks carries a positive test to the successful young sire Reliable Man.

Lining up against Platinum Command will be the three-year-old filly Peaceful who comes in well under the conditions of Saturday’s race with 55kg as opposed to her rivals carrying 57kg. A dual stakes winner in 2018 for the Baker/Forsman stable, Peaceful has put in two strong runs since returning from a spell with a good third to Riding the Wave at Te Aroha fresh up before running second to Group 2 winner Pinemdown at her last start at Te Rapa. Peaceful is another whose chances would grow if the rain arrives and she should be close to her peak after two runs back from a spell.

Peaceful has drawn poorly at 14 of the 14 runners but if the rain comes as predicted this could become an advantage for her connections.

Peaceful has a full brother (by Savabeel) heading to the Ready to Run Sale in November and his dam Paloma is due to foal again to the Waikato Stud sire in 2019.
