Reliable Man Filly to Contest the Queensland Oaks31 May 2019
Earning a start in the three-year-old filly feature on Saturday, the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m), is the Gerry Harvey owned Duchess of Lennox (by Reliable Man) but she will have to overcome some extra distance having drawn the widest barrier.
Trained by Chris Waller, it was just two weeks ago Duchess of Lennox had her first outing on a Queensland racecourse where she ran a very close second in the BRC Australian Racing Hall of Fame Handicap with it being her first time stepping up to 2000m. Whilst only lightly tried with five race starts for two wins and two second placings she looks in good order.
Bred and raised in New Zealand, the Reliable Man filly has Oaks winners on both sides of her pedigree with her sire's second dam Fair Salinia a three-time Oaks winner, and out of the Encosta de Lago mare Dunbarton, Duchess of Lennox's second dam is Tartan Tights who won the NZ Oaks and further down the page is Lee's Bid, runner-up in both the Queensland and AJC Oaks.
Another Reliable Man to come off the farm is Hypnos who is making his Australian debut at Caulfield tomorrow for the Roger James and Robert Wellwood NZ stable. The three-year-old gelding has been a consistent performer winning the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes, second equal in the Group 1 Levin Classic and placed in the Group 3 Bonecrusher Stakes.
Starting in Race 3 over 1440m, Hypnos is first in a field of 10 and has Michael Dee engaged to ride with the pair jumping from the third barrier for owners Ron and Fran Dixon.« Back
