Tamarack ATamarack Tackles Listed Winter Cup

Redwood gelding Tamarack heads to Rosehill tomorrow to tackle the Listed Winter Cup over 2400m for Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride.

Tamarack resumed with a tough win over 1500m last month at the stand alone meeting at Hawkesbury and hasn’t had much luck in two subsequent starts since over 2000m and 2400m respectively, both at black type level, and he should now be nearing peak fitness at his fourth run back from a spell.

Tamarack has a good record at Rosehill Gardens with a win and four placings from eight attempts on the track, and the better the surface the better he is likely to run. The track is currently a Soft 5 and no rain forecast until Sunday which will play into Tamarack’s hands.

Out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Our Squeezer, Tamarack was bred by Peter Newsom, Mac Whitehouse, and Tony Wales who share in the ownership with Proven Thoroughbreds and partners with the 5YO gelding being a great money spinner for the group winning six of his 27 starts and more than A$300,000 in stakes. Regular rider Jay Ford takes the mount on Tamarack and he looks well positioned at the weights with just 53kg on his back.

Tamarack’s breeders will offer a half-brother to Tamarack (by Pierro) at Karaka in January, while his dam Our Squeezer is infoal to So You Think and is booked to young Darley stallion Kermadec in 2019.
